Suggested Paints XF-1, XF-2, XF-23, XF-24, XF-26, XF-52, XF-54, XF-55, XF-9 Sister ship to the well-known Bismark, the Tirpitz was under constant Allied attack from the start of the second war. Early attacks failed to prevent the battleship from being completed and deployed from Norway against the Russian convoys. She encountered determined resistance from screening Royal Navy units, convoy escorts and submarines and had no impact on the convoys. The threat she posed to the convoys remained and she was attacked and disabled at her moorings by midget submarines, their mines bending and seizing the battleship's propeller shafts. Finally, anchored in a Norwegian fiord the Tirpitz was attacked by British bombers capsized with a loss of 1,204 men. | |
