| > Waterline 1:1250 Ships > Navis Neptun > Airships | The enormous size of the early 20th Century airships is immediately apparent when these models are viewed along a battleship in the same scale.
Made to a constant scale of 1:1250 to match the waterline ships the metal air ship models are supplied in a Perspex display case that has a nicely finished wooden base with the model supported on two pylons. Finish is good in authentic colours with transfers providing marking detail. The aircraft are of course tiny and aren't in display cases.
Not always in stock, they are usually available to special order in a reasonable timescale. | Navis Neptun 1/1250 British Airship R100 (L7) Navis Neptun's fine model, in a display box of the private initiative competitor for the government sponsored R101
Built by the Airship Guarantee Company, the R100 was very interestingly designed by a team led by one of the finest aircraft engineers in history, Sir Barnes Wallis, subsequently of bouncing bomb fame. Built at the RNAS station at Howden in Yorkshire, it first flew on 16th Dec. 1929.
After a successful voyage to Canada, flying was banned by the British government in response to the disaster with the R101 and R100 was subsequently scrapped. It's interesting to reflect on what might have been if the project had been persevered with! | |
