| > Waterline 1:1250 Ships > Navis Neptun > Airships | The enormous size of the early 20th Century airships is immediately apparent when these models are viewed along a battleship in the same scale.
Made to a constant scale of 1:1250 to match the waterline ships the metal air ship models are supplied in a Perspex display case that has a nicely finished wooden base with the model supported on two pylons. Finish is good in authentic colours with transfers providing marking detail. The aircraft are of course tiny and aren't in display cases.
Not always in stock, they are usually available to special order in a reasonable timescale. | Navis Neptun 1/1250 L53, a Zeppelin Airship Bomber (1917) (L8V) The Germans decided to use black paint to camouflage their airships for night raids but they found that temperature variations between sunlight and nightime affected the flight characteristics owing to heat radiation from the upper surfaces. The solution was to leave the top unpainted! 19 reconnaissance missions; 4 attacks on England, dropping 11,930 kg bombs. Intercepted and destroyed by British Sopwith Camel N6812 flown by Lt Culley RAF, who took off from a lighter towed by the destroyer HMS Redoubt, on August 11, 1918 | |
