| > Waterline 1:1250 Ships > Navis Neptun > Airships | The enormous size of the early 20th Century airships is immediately apparent when these models are viewed along a battleship in the same scale.
Made to a constant scale of 1:1250 to match the waterline ships the metal air ship models are supplied in a Perspex display case that has a nicely finished wooden base with the model supported on two pylons. Finish is good in authentic colours with transfers providing marking detail. The aircraft are of course tiny and aren't in display cases.

This airship was designed as a civilian airship but was sister to the first successful naval airship, L3 (LZ24) and may have been undergoing conversion to a naval airship when she was destroyed in the hangar in a bombing raid on 8th October 1914.
Other similar "m-type" airships were: LZ27-35 & LZ37, most of which served with the German Navy from 1914-16 as scouts and bombers. | |
