Originally designed as a "Large Light Cruiser" to attack German interests in the Baltic sea during WW1, Furious was equipped with an aircraft flying-off deck in place of the forward 18" gun turret from the start of her long naval career. By 1918, a second landing on deck had been added in place of the aft turret (as modelled) and in this form her aircraft raided the Zepplin sheds at Tondern. Turbulence from the funnel affected the handling of aircraft when landing and she was again converted to a flush decked aircraft carrier and served in WW2.
