The Askold was launched in 1900, being probably the fastest Russian cruiser of the time. She was quite unique in appearance, having 5 tall funnels. She proved her worth in the Russo-Japanese war
In WWI she served in the Mediterranean and White Sea, where she was later captured by the British and commissioned in August 1918 as Glory IV. She was sent back to Russia and broken up in 1921. The money raised from her was used to build new Russian railroads
