Akagi began life as an Amagi Class Battlecruiser but was converted to an aircraft carrier under the terms of the Washington Treaty. Originally, she had 3 flight decks! However, she was converted to a single deck Carrier with a port side island at the end of the 1930s. She was sunk at the Battle of Midway in 1942.
