To reduce taxes and harour dues a number of freighters were designed with low freeboard along the edges of the main deck and a continuous upper deck, which could be regarded as part of the hull. The appearance of the ship is distinctive but what it did for stability or crew safety when heavy seas washed over the main deck is probably unprintable! Many of these ships had a short life because of WW1 and they are rarely modelled.
