Sistership to Carmania, the first turbine-engined Cunarder, she had reciprocating engines for comparison purposes. Turbines proved more efficient, so Coronia was always in her sister's shadow until painted in this striking colour scheme!
Dazzle camouflage was devised in WW1 specifically to make range and course difficult to ascertain by U-boats. Early results showed that camouflaged ships were less likely to be sunk and so it was quickly applied to all Transatlantic Troopers. | |
