Completed in 1963, Kent retained 4x4.5" guns throughout her active career.
Designed around the Seaslug missile system, these large ships were almost as big as light cruisers. When the beam-riding Seaslug became obsolescent, some were re-armed with exocets but Kent soldiered on with minimum modernisations becoming a harbour ship in 1980 and remaining at Portsmouth long after her sisters were either scrapped or sold. | |
