Scorpion & her sister Wivern were ordered for the Confederate Navy during the American Civil War but appropriated for the Royal Navy to preserve Britain's neutrality. The ships had a shallow freeboard and a deep roll, so were soon relegated to coast defence. Scorpion served as guardship at Bermuda for 30 years! | |
