| > Waterline 1:1250 Ships > Mercator | | Mercator was originally produced in German and then taken over by Skytrex. Many of the original German models are still available but Skytrex have stopped producing their own castings for the moment so where there is no stock newer models are no longer being made. | Mercator 1/1250 Jan Willem, Whale Factory Ship, 1937 to 1940 (M527) Jan Wellem was used as a troop transport during the invasion of Narvik (perhaps to avoid suspicion of their intentions) and was sunk by British Destroyers in the battles for the port on 13th April 1940! Whaling ships were once a popular subject for mini-ship models. Even Triang made one together with plastic whales that looked remarkably like a Whirlwind helicopter without the rotor-blades! | |
