Mercator was originally produced in German and then taken over by Skytrex. Many of the original German models are still available but Skytrex have stopped producing their own castings for the moment so where there is no stock newer models are no longer being made.

With a clipper bow, turtledack foredeck and streamlined funnels, this good-looking ship was furnished in the Art Deco style by the very best French craftsmen. Ultimately beaten on top speed by Queen Mary, she settled in to the routine of Atlantic crossings. Following the fall of France in WW2, The Americans took her over for trooping and re-named her "Lafayette". She caught fire and capsized in New York before her first voyage as a troopship.
