Mauretania & her sistership Lusitania were specifically designed to capture the Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing. Mauretania was always the faster of the two and held the trophy for about 20 years but they were much smaller ships than the slightly newer competion from Germany and the White Star Line and so the follow on Cunarder was the larger & slower Aquitania. | |
