Albatros 1/1250 Delphine, the Classic Yacht, as she is today (ALS88A)
Ordered in 1920 by Horace Dodge (the younger of the car manufacturing brothers) and named after his daughter, she is still fitted with her original quadruple expansion steam plant which he designed. She has been modernised retaining her classic profile and her 1920s tenders!

Built on the Red River, Michigan, she was designed to the limits of the locks which would allow her to access the Atlantic and she was the largest privately owned yacht in the world when built. In 1926 she was badly damaged by fire but was re-built and in 1942 she was taken over by the US Navy and served throughout the war as USS Dauntless (Admiral Earnest King's Flagship). Again re-fitted by the Dodge family after WW2, in 1955 she was handed over to a charity (who called her Dauntless!) but after a further 20 years she was put up for sale and crossed the Atlantic for the only time in her long career to sail in the Mediterranean. The present owner had her completely re-fitted during the 1990s in Belgium and in 2003, she returned triumphantly to Monaco and is now available to charter!
