Artesania kits are of a good standard and this model, new in 2003, is no exception. Although 4 masted, the rigging is really straightforward with mainly fore and aft sails. A painted ABS hull simplifies building and helps in the production of a compact and handsome model with a finished length of 457mm, height 272mm and beam of 50mm (18" x 10 3/4" x 2". We could also supply a nice display case!
This 4 masted schooner was launched in Cadiz, as a Spanish navy training ship, on the 5th March 1927. A highlight of her long career was the 3600 mile race between Lisbon and Hamilton in 1964, when modifications were made to the sails to enable speeds of up to 15 knots. She carries a crew of 36 officers, 143 sailor trainees and 70 marines. Overall length is 94.13 metres and two saluting cannons are carried. | |
