| > Ship Model Kits by Type & Scale > 1/700 Scale Warships | Tamiya 1/700 BB62 New Jersey American Battleship (31614) BB-62 New Jersey, Tamiya's second US battleship in the 1/700 Waterline Series, follows the release of the BB-63 Missouri in July 2004.The model is based on the ship as she was after 1982 refit and update. Construction is via left-right halves for easy assembly. Accurate reproduction of changes made in 1982 including lattice style mast, and Tomahawk and Harpoon launchers. A SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter is included for quality realistic finish, helped by a large, detailed painting reference chart. Launched in 1942, serving from 1943 to 1991, New Jersey was the most decorated battleship in US naval history. One of 4 Iowa class battleships built by the US, like the others she boasted a 45,000 ton displacement, an amazing 212,000hp,& three turrets of 50 caliber 40.6cm (16")& triple guns, and despite her large size, with the hull measuring over 270m, was narrow enough to pass through the Panama Canal. Following service in major battles in the Pacific during WWII, she was deployed in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1982, upgrading with modern technology and weapon’s systems enabled the launch of Tomahawk cruise and Harpoon anti-ship missiles. Whilst serving on missions in Central America, she was rushed to the Mediterranean in 1983 to provide fire support in Beirut, Lebanon. After service in the first Gulf War, final decommissioning took place in 1991. | |
